I've had this for a couple of months and the speeds can vary drastically. It can go from 2-5mbs to 20-40mbs depending. There is no way to lock the band on the device as you would a MOFI modem. I’ve loved the router to date. It’s so easy to set up and it manages itself. My speeds down more than doubled, however my up seeds slowed, which seemed bizarre to me (I’m not super tech minded tho.). When it works it works great. Speed is decent, WIFI works great. BUT I typically have to reboot this at least once a day after it drops the connection to Verizon.
